Today, Jesus is transforming life, and he is able to transform even death.
Pastor Colin Smith preached a brief message at our fundraising event, Today 2015, on the urgency of the gospel, why “today” is the day for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. We hope this encourages you, as it did us, to seek every opportunity to give a reason for the hope you have in the Savior.
Brief Message Outline: “Today”
Four occasions where “today” is used in the Gospels:
- The word of the angel: There is good news with great joy that will be for all the people, we are told by the angel in Luke 2:10. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
- The synagogue in Nazareth: Jesus reads the scroll of Isaiah, which foreshadows the Christ, and he says, “Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21)
- The story of Zacchaeus: Jesus sees Zacchaeus up in a tree, straining to see him through the crowds, and says he is staying at his house today. When the tax collector confesses his fraudulence, Jesus says, “Today salvation has come to this house.” (Luke 19:1-10)
- The story of the thief on the cross: The repentant thief realizes his need for salvation, while he hangs next to Christ on the cross, asking, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Christ replies, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43)
