All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

As Christians, we want to listen to all that God says. We don’t want to pick up a few pieces here and there that appeal to us and then ignore everything else. So our pattern is to open the Bible, read what God says, and then apply whatever we find there to our lives.

Approach the Bible in this spirit: “The Bible I am holding in my hand claims to be the Word of God. If that is true, this Bible is what God himself is saying to me. And if this is what God is saying to me, nothing matters more than that I should listen to what he has said.”

We don’t want to be critics of the Bible. We want the Bible to criticize us! We want to place ourselves under the authority of the Word of God. We want God to search us, challenge us, and feed us through the Scriptures.

If you will begin to do this, day by day, and week by week, listening to God through the Scriptures will become a lifetime habit for you, and over time your life will be nourished and fed. Your whole life will be molded in a way that will bring blessing to you and glory to God.

In what ways are you approaching the Bible like this? In what ways are you approaching the Bible differently?
