“Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” Deuteronomy 8:18

When you receive your paycheck, you are to remember that this is what God has given to you. In the Old Testament, God gave his people a wonderful way of remembering that. They brought a tenth of what God gave them and offered it to the Lord.

When God invited his people to gather for worship, he said—“Do not come empty handed” (16:16).

The problem with money is that however much God gives you, you never feel that is enough. Here’s a great way to make earning an act of worship and completely transform your view of money: Take a tenth of all that God has given you and put it into a separate account for giving. Put it there on a standing order. Use that account to give for the advance of his kingdom.

You will find it to be a source of great joy. Every dollar you give to God will be a reminder that God gave ten times that amount to you. It will alter your view of money, and it will foster a spirit of thanksgiving, and that is vital to your spiritual health.

Maybe you are thinking, I don’t like that prescription, but if that is what you feel, consider honestly whether you may not be showing signs of self-involvement: “me.”

Are you ready to turn your earning into an act of worship? How will you do it?
