But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:15 (NIV)

The new birth is the beginning of a new life in which God calls us to pursue holiness. This needs to be worked out in three areas.

First, fight against sin in your life. Be self-controlled. Do not conform to evil desires. Get rid of all that holds you back. The struggles are real and the failures are real, but never forget that the power of the risen Lord lives in you. You have the power to live this life.

Second, live in the light of eternity. Live your lives as strangers here with reverent fear. The world is convinced that real life is here and now, and that whatever happens beyond death is only a shadow of this life. But the Christian knows that everything we enjoy here is only a shadow of what will be in the presence of Christ.

Third, learn to love the family of God. When you were born again, God brought you into a new family. The relationships we have in Christ are precious because they will last for eternity, so let’s learn to love one another now.

This is what the path of holiness looks like—taking up the fight against sin, living in the light of eternity, and learning to love the family.

Are you pursuing holiness? Where do you need to be more intentional?
