“You cannot serve both God and Money.” Matthew 6:24 (NIV)

Come into the boardroom of the soul that has just received some good news. Mind calls the meeting to tell the others about it, as the members take their seats around the table:

“I’ve called this meeting,” says Mind, “because we are at last in the happy situation of having some money.”

“Imagination and I were briefed ahead of time,” says Heart, “and we’ve been talking. We’d like to pass around a wish list of some things we both want.”

Paging through a lengthy document, Conscience says, “Aren’t we getting a little carried away?”

Heart interrupts, “Maybe we can’t afford all of this now, but we can work toward it.”

“I agree,” says Imagination. “Let’s dream big!”

“You’ve been strangely quiet, Will,” says Mind. “If we are going to fund this wish list, we will need your support. You would have to be absolutely committed to raising the money. In fact, we can’t commit to a project like this unless the whole board is unanimous.”

Will looks at Heart, who has never looked so happy, “If my friend Heart is for it,” Will says, “then I’m for it. I’ll support the list.”

“Then the wish list is approved,” says Mind, “and we’re all committed to it. Will, you need to work on raising the money. Heart and Imagination can determine spending priorities. Conscience and Memory, you can focus on other things.”

When was the last time you came into some money that you did not expect?
