Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Romans 8:14 (NIV)

Picture the Spirit of God coming into the soul, assuming the position of Chairman of the Board, and convening a meeting:

“Will, you look tired, what’s going on?”

“I’m burned out trying to fulfill Heart’s wish list.”

“If you fulfilled the whole wish list, Will, would you be satisfied?”

“Well no,” says Will. “I want to count for more than that.”

“Heart, your pleasure diminishes each time you check something off the list, right?”

“Yes,” says Heart. “Anticipating the wish list is better than actually fulfilling it!”

“This list has become master of the soul,” says the Spirit, “so let’s table it. Some of the things on that list will become yours. But they cannot be the agenda of your life. Instead of letting the wish list drive our pursuit of money, we’re going to make it our servant.”

“How will we decide what to do with it?” asked Imagination.

“We’ll take what God gives us and spend some of it, save some of it, and give away some of it. We will discuss how much we should spend, save, and give.”

“How much should we give?” said Conscience, who was hoping to be given a number.

“We’ll give until it affects Heart.”

“I’m not sure that I’m happy about that,” says Heart.

“You will find increasing pleasure in following the Master’s priorities,” said the Spirit. “I move that we table the wish list and operate under the Master’s priorities.”

The motion was carried unanimously.

What might it look like if you began operating under the Master’s priorities?
