Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” Matthew 14:27

Suddenly the disciples have another glimpse of the glory of Jesus. They have already seen him stop the wind from blowing. They have already seen him heal the sick. They have already seen him spread a feast for 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish. Now they see him suspend the laws of gravity as he walks out to them over the lake.

You find this pattern in the Gospels, that however much the disciples have learned about Jesus, he is always more wonderful, more glorious, and more powerful than they had grasped. That is how it is in our experience too. However much we have grasped of his greatness and glory, there is always more.

Imagine driving on beautiful country roads that wind through the mountains. You come around one corner and you see a breathtaking view, “Oh, that’s beautiful!” Then you turn another corner, “Wow! That’s stunning.” Finally, you come to a view you’ve seen many times, but today the lighting is different and you see that familiar landscape as you’ve never seen it before.

Even the angels of heaven cannot take in the full extent of the glory of the Lord. We will spend all eternity gasping at fresh views of the glory of God.

When was the last time you caught a glimpse of Jesus that was more wonderful, more glorious, and more powerful than you had ever seen before?
