He who has suffered in his body is done with sin. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what the pagans choose to do. 1 Peter 4:1-3 (NIV)
We all face a choice. Either you do what comes naturally (human desires) or you do the will of God.
You get one chance to be sold out for God in school, one run at raising a godly family, one opportunity to follow Christ in your career, one run through the dangerous waters of mid-life, and one chance to finish strong in retirement.
It’s easy to start thinking, I’ll give myself fully to Christ later, but first I need to do my own thing. Peter says, “You’ve spent enough time in the past doing what pagans do. Don’t go back there. You don’t have time for that bar, that night club, or those parties.”
When a hockey player commits a foul, he (or she) is put in the penalty box. He is out of the game. Peter says, “You’ve spent enough time there. God wants you back in the game.” A Christian who is messing around with sin is of no use in the purpose of God.
You don’t want to stand in God’s presence and say, “I intended to give myself wholly to you.” You want to say, “Lord, as best I knew how, I gave myself to doing your will.” You have a limited amount of time to make your life count for God. Stop messing around with sin.
Are you making your life count for God now?
