“With God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 (NIV)

The disciples had already seen remarkable demonstrations of Jesus’ power. He drove out a demon (Luke 4:35). He healed various kinds of diseases (4:40). He healed a leper and a paralytic (5:12-17). And He raised a man from the dead (7:14-15).

The disciples saw these miracles with their own eyes. They saw His power over disease, demons, and death. They saw God’s ability. Now, here they are in a boat, engulfed in a storm. The problem is that although they know the power of God, they are unable to make a connection between God’s ability and their situation. They are looking at the situation in purely secular terms.

So they panicked, and Jesus said to them: “Where is your faith?” In other words, “You have already seen what I can do in relation to disease, demons, and death. Why can’t you factor in what I can do in this situation? Where is your faith?”

How about you? Where do you need to factor in God’s ability? Are you lonely? Do you have an unbelieving family member? Are you facing health issues? Marriage troubles? Are you struggling to live what you say you believe? Are you afraid of being different?

You must resist evaluating life’s issues in purely secular terms: There is no hope. It’s beyond what I can do. I can’t see any way out. I don’t have the strength.

Have you factored in the ability of God? He is the God of the impossible situation.

How about you? Where do you need to factor in the ability of God?
