A windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger. Luke 8:23
It is not as common today, but if you got married a generation or two ago, you likely received a set of fine china as a wedding present. After the wedding, you probably said, “This is too good for everyday use,” and you put it in a glass display cabinet for special occasions.
Twenty, thirty, or forty years later, it’s still there! It was a beautiful gift, and it has been carefully preserved, but it is rarely used.
It’s very easy for God’s gift of faith to become like that. We receive the gift with joy. We understand that it is a valuable and even a priceless gift. We are grateful that we have this faith in the glass cabinet of our hearts, but it is rarely brought out and used. Where is your faith?
Have you ever noticed how often Christians experience dramatic growth in a time of crisis? One reason for this is that when we face a crisis, faith gets taken out of the glass cabinet, and we begin trusting God in a real-life situation, and suddenly what has been on display is put to work.
That’s the point of Jesus’ question: Where is your faith? “You know me and believe in me. You know that I am with you. Now you find yourself in a storm. Why are you not applying your faith to this situation?”
If you don’t apply your faith to the challenges of your life, then you will suffer from diminished growth, and that is the root of many people’s doubts.
Are you facing a storm, and need to bring out your faith?
