[Jesus] broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. Mark 6:41

It is a great privilege to serve Jesus. He could have fed the multitude without the help of the little boy. He could have created loaves and fish out of nothing. But Christ did not do that. Instead, He chose to multiply what was placed into His hands.

When we give and when we serve, we say to Christ, “Lord, take this and use it as You will for Your glory.” Then we get to see Him do remarkable things.

John tells us that Jesus distributed the food, but Mark tells us that He did this through the disciples. Jesus could have provided for the crowd without the assistance of the disciples. The people could have formed a line and received the food directly from the hand of Jesus. But that is not His way. Christ works through means, and we are God’s fellow workers.

The disciples acted as runners between Jesus and the people. They received from Jesus, and they gave what they received to the people. They came back to Jesus to receive more and gave what they received to the people. And the more they did this, the more their faith must have grown, because Jesus’ hands were never empty.

That is a wonderful picture of ministry. As we receive from Christ, so we have something to give to others. We give what we receive, and then He gives us more.

What has the Lord given to you, that you might give to others? How can you be a “runner for Jesus” today?
