“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened…” Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

Come into the boardroom of the soul, where the members are weary and burdened:

“I’m anxious,” says Mind. “Past experience has made me more aware of the dangers that lurk all around us.”

“I’ve been disappointed in love,” says Heart. “It would be better if I learned to hold myself back. I’m afraid I’ll get hurt again.”

“I’m frustrated,” says Imagination. “You keep telling me you want me to come up with a big idea that’s worthy of your full devotion. But nothing is ever good enough!”

Conscience is aware of some things that should never have been said or done. He has tried to get them on the agenda for discussion, but the other members of the Board have consistently overruled him. So he is living with issues that the Board refuses to address.

The Board listens to Memory, but none of them can do anything about the problems he raises. Mind ponders them. Heart weeps over them. Will says he wishes it had not been like that. But at the end of the day, nobody can do anything to change the past.

“I know what I want,” says Will. “But I don’t usually get it. No wonder I get angry! I’m tired of being told to try harder, and I’m fed up with living under the burden of that word ‘ought.’”

Is this your soul? Jesus speaks to all who are weary and burdened, so if you have experienced this kind of restlessness in your soul, He is speaking to you.
