Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy. 1 Peter 1:8 (NIV)

Peter does not say, “You should be filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” He says, “You are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” When you grasp the full significance of what God has done for you, you will be filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.

So, look at all that God has done for you! You have been born again. You are kept by the power of God. You may face great trials, but when that happens, they will give evidence that your faith is authentic, and that is going to result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

On top of all that, you have received what the prophets searched for and the angels long for. Everything that God has planned for mankind since the creation of the world is taking place in you. Right now, even in the middle of all the troubles that may surround you, you “are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls” (1:9).

What do you know of this “inexpressible and glorious” joy? Are you beginning to grasp the full significance of what God has done for you?
