Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession… 1 Timothy 6:12 (NIV)
Remember your confession, Timothy. You are God’s man. You are a man in Christ.
If you are God’s man or God’s woman, you don’t start each day wondering who you are, why you are here, or who you belong to. You are Christ’s, united with him in his death and resurrection. You have made a confession. You no longer live for yourself, but for Christ who died for you and was raised to life (2 Cor. 5:15).
And this is a good confession. If you have confessed Christ as your Savior and Lord, you have made the best confession a person can ever make in this world. You have identified yourself with Jesus Christ who died, bearing your sins, and rose, bringing you eternal life. You belong to him. You are God’s man or woman.
If you have made this good confession, then you are standing with Peter who said to Jesus, “You are the Messiah” (Mark 8:29). You are standing with Thomas when he bowed before Jesus and said, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). You are standing with the whole church in every place and every age confessing that “Jesus is Lord.”
Are you standing with Peter, Thomas, and the whole church today? If you are, take a moment to reflect on the many generations going back to the first century, and how you stand on the shoulders of each generation of believers. If not, why not?
