The lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will… bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming. 2 Thessalonians 2:8
Think about Saul of Tarsus—a man who makes things happen, a mover and a shaker, a man who is going to make his mark in the town of Damascus (see Acts 9). Suddenly he is stopped in his tracks, and he is lying helpless in the road. Why? The risen Lord Jesus Christ appeared to him! He cannot move. He cannot see.
On January 3, 2011, there was a partial solar eclipse (the moon passing between the sun and the earth) that was visible from much of Europe, North Africa, and central Asia. An article in the London Times said that the weather forecast was for clouds over Britain, so there wasn’t much chance of seeing it there.
Nevertheless, the government issued a warning, concerned that the sun might actually be visible in some parts of the country: “While clouds are likely to obscure the partial solar eclipse this morning, doctors have warned that looking directly at it in clear spells, even for seconds, will cause permanent eye damage.”
The brightness of the sun is so great that it would blind you to look at it for just a few seconds. If that is what the splendor of the sun could do to us by looking at it for a few seconds, what then is the splendor of the Lord who made it?
The Lord Jesus will bring the antichrist to nothing by the splendor of His coming. Does this not make you glad that you are His?
