Once when the king of Syria was warring against Israel, he took counsel with his servants, saying, “At such and such a place shall be my camp.” – 2 Kings 6:8
Here is another remarkable story from the life of Elisha, and this story is especially for all who are fearful. If you feel that darkness is closing in. If you are saying, “What am I going to do?” If you find it difficult to sleep at night, this story is for you.
The king of Syria wanted to ambush the king of Israel. You can almost see him poring over the map, with his advisors huddled around him saying, “The king of Israel will be there: That’s where we will take him.”
But God disrupts the plans of the wicked (Ps. 146:9). He revealed the enemy’s plans to Elisha, and Elisha warned the king of Israel. This king was receiving military intelligence direct from Almighty God! The king was always one step ahead of his enemies.
This was infuriating to the king of Syria. “When we show up, the king of Israel has already moved on! He seems to know when we are coming. But how? There must be a spy in our court.”
So we read, “The mind of the king of Syria was greatly troubled… and he called his servants and said… ‘Will you not show me who of us is for the king of Israel?’” (2 Kings 6:11).
Then one of his servants told him there was no spy in his court. “Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom” (6:12).
God knows every word you have ever spoken. He even knows the words you speak in your bedroom.
