5 Inspiring Sermons on Prayer

Open the Bible App

Prayer is natural and unnatural. It’s natural because, as the aphorism “there are no atheists in foxholes” reminds us, all of humanity looks to God in distress. And yet, it’s unnatural: how do we pray to a God we cannot see? Even mature believers need spiritual encouragement and practical help to grow in prayer.

What follows are some of the best sermons on prayer from Pastor Colin Smith that you can listen to for free at For more of Pastor Colin’s biblical teaching, follow us on YouTube, the Open the Bible app, or by searching “Open the Bible” in your favorite podcast app.

1. Prayer 101 (transcript available)

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.  James 5:17-18

Do you struggle with your prayer life? Every Christian will struggle with this at one time or another.  Join Pastor Colin as he talks about the life of Elijah and discover the 7 “P’s” for effective prayer.
