For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

Think about the battles that are wearing you out—a rebellious son/daughter or a difficult colleague at work, trying to do something for Christ and finding that you face opposition at every turn, or perhaps an ongoing struggle with sin and temptation. People are not the problem. It always seems like they are, but Paul says, “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood.”

You may be struggling with your rebellious son, but behind his rebellion, unseen spiritual forces are at work. You may be struggling with the way other people are doing business, but spiritual forces are at work in them. You may be struggling with your own sin, but you need to know what is going on inside you so that you will know what it is that you should battle against.

You need wisdom for discerning the battle. You need the inside story—what’s going on behind the scenes. If you’re going to stay the course, then you need to be able to discern the battle. In the Bible, God lifts the veil that covers the activity of unseen forces in the spiritual realm.

There is a spiritual battle that all of us face, and that battle will intensify and come to an ultimate confrontation when Jesus Christ returns.

Where do you feel you need more wisdom for a battle you are facing?
