The lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth. 2 Thessalonians 2:8
This lawless one, in whom human evil reaches its worst, will be more evil and more powerful than Hitler, Stalin, Nero, or any other person you can think of. How will he be overthrown? When the Son of God is revealed, He will blow on him, like a child blowing out candles.
When the Bible speaks about the world’s last battle, it refers to “Armageddon” (Rev. 16:16). But don’t imagine for one second that this is some titanic struggle in which Jesus barely wins. One breath from Jesus, and all His enemies are overthrown—that’s sovereign power!
The wicked… are like chaff that the wind drives away. Psalm 1:4
[God]… makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness… he blows on them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. Isaiah 40:23-24
Because God is able to do this, He says to us,
Fret not yourselves because of evildoers… For they will soon fade like the grass, and wither like the green herb. Psalm 37:1-2
What can overcome the impulse to sin in your life? Receiving the life of Jesus (His breath). He will overthrow every one of His enemies by the breath of His mouth. What a fantastic glimpse of the sovereign power of Jesus. And He is your Savior!
