Discussion Questions:
- The Word of God has been attacked by the enemy from the beginning (read Genesis 3:1–7). Why is it so essential for our convictions to be set regarding God’s Word?
- The Bible is much more than information. It is the living Word by which God brings transformation. Why is this so crucial to understand as we minister to others? (See Isaiah 55:10–11; Hebrews 4:12–13). Read 2 Peter 1:19–21. How is Scripture different from all other messages in the world? Why is that a good thing?
- Pastor Colin mentioned three wrong views of inspiration:
- Denying Inspiration (the Bible is not the Word of God)
- Locating inspiration in the reader of the Bible (the Bible becomes the Word of God)
- Limiting inspiration to certain parts of the Bible (the Bible contains the Word of God)
- Why is each understanding either wrong or incomplete?
- Why is coming to God’s Word with humble and submissive hearts essential for believers? (See Isaiah 66:2; James 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16–17.)
- How centered is your ministry (formal or informal) on the Word of God? How can you make the Bible more at the center?
Respond to the teaching in prayer:
- Praise God for revealing Himself in His transformative Word!
- Confess your doubts and lack of attention paid to God’s living Word.
- Thank God for how He’s begun the work of transformation in your life.
- Ask God to deepen your conviction of the power and authority of His Word.
- Ask Him for a greater hunger to abide in His Word.
