25 Bible Verses about God’s Love

Weekly Bible E-Newsletter to Help You Open Your Bible

What does the Bible say about the love of God?

From Genesis to Revelation, the God of the Bible shows His love for His creation and people in awe-inspiring ways—nothing more inspiring than at the cross of Jesus Christ.

God loves humanity and desires all to be saved (John 3:16; 1 Timothy 2:4). But our sin separates us from a right relationship with God and puts us under His condemnation (Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; Isaiah 59:2). At the cross, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, paid the price for our sin by giving His life as an atoning sacrifice for sin (2 Corinthians 5:21). Three days later He rose from the dead, victorious over death. We receive the free gift of forgiveness and salvation by faith in Jesus Christ.

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation. Colossians 1:21–22 NIV

May the following Scriptures about the love of God open your eyes to the glorious mercy and grace of almighty God and cause you to worship Him!

New Testament

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” John 13:34

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. 1 John 3:1

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:7–10

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:5

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

Sermon: Rescued Forever (on Romans 8:38–39)

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:4-5

[Paul prayed for the Ephesians]…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:17-19 ESV

And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:2

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6–7

Devotional: The Connection Between Pride and Anxiety

Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. Jude 1:21

For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. 2 Corinthians 5:14–15
