He [Jesus] has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Hebrews 13:5
Jesus knows what it is to be separated from loved ones. At the Last Supper, He said to His disciples, “I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom” (Mat. 26:29).
No one ever loved with a more perfect love than Jesus. With all His heart, He would have wanted to care for His mother. But on the cross, He had to trust her care to someone else. Jesus said to Mary, “Woman, behold your son!” And to John He said, “Behold your mother!” (Jn. 19:26, 27).
When you are separated from loved ones, let your anguish lead you to Jesus. There is only one person who is able to say, “I will never leave you. I will never forsake you,” and that is the Lord Himself (Heb. 13:5). If the Lord is your Shepherd, you will not want.
Even though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you need fear no evil, for He will be with you. His rod and staff will comfort you. His goodness and mercy will follow you, and you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever (see Ps. 23).
When you fear being separated from your loved ones, let your anguish lead you to Jesus.
